VIRTUAL INTERFACE PANEL ENVIRONMENT SUPPORTS RAPID PROTOTYPING AND CUSTOM DEBUGGING INTERFACES

Moorpark, Calif. – September 20, 1996 – Signum Systems, a leading manufacturer of embedded system development tools has released Viper™ – Virtual Interface Panel Environment for Signum Systems’ Chameleon Debugger™. The Viper environment allows for front panel-style user interfaces to be quickly created on the screen by dragging-and-dropping standard controls. The controls include LED indicators, LED and LCD displays, push buttons, toggle switches, 2-D plotters and message logs. The virtual controls can execute arbitrary debugger commands, ranging from starting or stopping the CPU and setting breakpoints to modifying variables in the target application. The controls can also evaluate and display specified source-level expressions. The combination of command execution and expression evaluation allows for arbitrary user interfaces to be rapidly prototyped and tested while running with the users actual hardware and software. Viper can also be used to create custom debugging interfaces for testing and service applications. Viper allows for multiple virtual interface panels to be active simultaneously. Every interface panel can be connected via a network to a different Chameleon Debugger session, allowing for multiple systems to be controlled and monitored from a remote location.

Viper works with Signum’s Chameleon source-level debugger running under Windows 95 an Windows NT. The Chameleon debugger is currently available for the 8051 microcontroller family. It works with Signum Systems’ USP-series of in-circuit emulators, RISM-compatible evaluation boards and embedded monitors.

The Viper is priced at $950.00.
